• # Notice: Manuscripts Using Chloral Hydrate for Animal Anesthesia Will No Longer Be Accepted (Effective August 18, 2019)
  To further safeguard laboratory animal welfare, improve the quality of animal experimental research and gain recognition from international academic peers, this journal has formulated the relevant policy in accordance with national and municipal regulations and standards for laboratory animals.
  
  Chloral hydrate is originally a sedative, hypnotic and anticonvulsant agent, which exhibits poor anesthetic performance when used as an anesthetic for laboratory animals. It brings strong irritation and severe toxic side effects, interferes with experimental outcomes, causes inhumane suffering to laboratory animals, and violates the principles of animal welfare and ethical review. Most international journals have discouraged the use of chloral hydrate as an animal anesthetic.
  
  Accordingly, starting from August 18, 2019, *Laboratory Animal Science* will no longer accept manuscripts that adopt chloral hydrate as an anesthetic for laboratory animals. All authors and readers are hereby notified.
