• # Monograph *Laboratory Animal Infectious Diseases* Released
  *Laboratory Animal Infectious Diseases*, chief-edited by Researcher Tian Kegong, Researcher He Zhengming, Professor Liu Qun and Researcher Gu Xiaoxue, compiled jointly by 114 specialists from 16 institutions, was published by China Agriculture Press in January 2015.
  
  The book consists of five parts and 118 chapters, covering a total of 226 major laboratory animal infectious diseases known globally: 112 viral diseases, 55 bacterial diseases, 13 fungal diseases and 86 parasitic diseases. Each disease is elaborated systematically from the perspectives of occurrence and distribution, etiology, epidemiology, clinical signs, pathological lesions, diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
  
  Furthermore, it illustrates the interference and potential hazards of laboratory animal diseases to research experiments, as well as the feasibility of laboratory animals serving as artificial infection models for humans and other animals, by analyzing their impacts on public health and experimental studies, and distinguishing clinical manifestations between natural and experimental infections.
  
  As the first comprehensive monograph on laboratory animal infectious diseases in China, it includes an extensive range of pathogens. While inheriting classic theories, methodologies and technologies, the editors summarized cutting-edge domestic and international research advances and integrated their own practical experience.
  
  Currently, laboratory animal resources are highly valued worldwide. Their quality and application level have become a key indicator measuring the scientific and technological capacity of a country or region, with developed countries investing heavily in laboratory animals as strategic resources. Since the 1980s, laboratory animal science has developed rapidly in China, and researchers have accumulated abundant research achievements and practical experience in the elimination, control and quality testing of laboratory animal infectious and parasitic diseases, supported by a professional technical workforce.
  
  The publication of this monograph caters to the developmental demands of laboratory animal science. It provides valuable theoretical and practical guidance for professionals engaged in laboratory animal research and quality evaluation, teaching and research on animal infectious and parasitic diseases, as well as the research and production of biological products.
