Abstract: Abstract: Objective To explore a practical fixation method of the unilateral indwelling needle inserted in the Sprague-Dawley rat tail vein covered with essential balm and record the indwelling time． Method 100 male SD rats were divided into two groups randomly: the control group and the improved group． All rats used the same disposable indwelling needle puncture and cannulation． Ｒats in both groups received the traditional fixation with medical rubberized fabric． In adition to the traditional fixation，the improved group covered with essential balm．The indwelling time was recorded． Ｒesult The indwelling time was ( 7. 05 ± 6. 34) h and ( 90. 36 ± 27. 42) h in the control and experimental groups，respectively( t = － 20. 929，P ＜ 0. 01) ． Conclusion Our new method is more safe and convenient than the traditional method prolonging the indwelling time effectively and providing a useful fixation method of indwelling needel inserted in the rat tail vein．
