Abstract: ObjectiveTo study the effects of testosterone of physiological dose on glucose and lipids metabolism of male aging rats with diabetes. Methods The male aging SD rats were injected with alloxan through tail vein, and after 72 hours the rats with increase of fasting blood-glucose and abnormality of glucose tolerance test for 2 hours were selected and randomly divided into the control group and the treatment group.Testosterone propionate was intramuscularly administered into the rats of the treatment group at a dose of 2 mg/kg,two times every week. After treating for 35 days, fasting blood-glucose,blood-lipoids,and glucose tolerance were determined. Results After treating for 35 days, fasting blood-glucose,and blood-glucose of glucose tolerance test for 30,60,and 120 minutes in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The triglyceride level in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the differences in total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, and high density lipoprotein levels between the two groups were not significant. Conclusion Testosterone is able to produce a decrease in the fasting blood-glucose level and improve the glucose tolerance in the male aging rats with diabetes.
